East Castle Road
Completed in 2011

This project involved the conversion of the existing outshoot to the rear of a Victorian villa into a new kitchen and dining space. The internal walls were completely removed and the roof replaced to create a single volume. The new roof has a 'skewed' pyramidal form topped with a large electrically-operated skylight, creating dramatic height to the space and providing continually changing light. The kitchen has a linear island arrangement which simply organises the space into cooking, eating and living areas. A large glazed opening was formed in the primary elevation giving the space a direct relationship with the new terrace & garden beyond, whilst a combination of replacement sash & case windows and new glazed doors on the side elevations give a variety of views and access out to the other garden areas. A range of different light fittings were incorporated to both highlight the form of the new space at night and allow different moods to be created.
